Tips on Completing the Mission: |
-
The two "Kingdoms" on this map are the Ceyah and the Mareten Jurai Empire
(It is not critical that all independent settlements be under your control
to win the mission). Although you can't declare peace with the Ceyah, you
do have the option of making friends or enemies with the Jurai. I would
recommend the former, because fighting 2 foes with the limited resources
you start with will not be easy.
- The Jurai are located across the river from you. To get to their
capital, follow the river south. When you get to the bridge, cross it and
head north until you hit the Capital. There are two ways to gain an
alliance with the Jurai. The first is to defeat the storm drake located to
the East of the Jurai Capital. Victory will yield a priceless Jurai
artifact, which can be returned to the capital to score major politics
points. You will need at least 4 companies to take the drake out. I was
able to do it with the initial companies led by Darius and The Hunter, a
company of infantry/mage/Archmage led by Roxanna, and a company of footmen
(no Kohan attached). Note that the alliance is not automatic, and has to
be done through the politics sidebar.
- The second way depends on the Ceyah taking control of the Jurai capital
before you reach it. If you can retake the capital and return it to the
Jurai, they will be eternally grateful, and may even offer you the
alliance before you get the chance.
- To keep your alliance strong, be sure to keep killing lair enemies and
Ceyah, repair damaged Jurai settlements, and give them captured
settlements, mines, and gold as tribute. As in mission 4, doing things
like building outposts close to their settlements while still at peace or
waging a poor campaign will cause you to fall out of favor, and may even
lead to a war.
- One of the first things you should do when you start is build a settler
and engineer company, and then send them southwest. When they find the
iron deposit, have them build a settlement and a mine. (There is a Slaan
Lair nearby, so send Darius and The Hunter to the region first to secure
it). If you don't move quickly, the Jurai will get it first, and that Iron
deposit will make things easier for you early in the game.
- Keep Jamsheed's goon company in the northern part of the map, as there
are a ton of spider nests and slaan lairs on this map that will pose a
serious threat to smaller settlements. I know most of you reading this
probably consider lair enemies to be a minor nuisance and a good way to
get a gold bonus, but if left unattended a group of spiders or Slaan can
easily destroy a town or village. Jamsheed should stay in the area to keep
the spiders and Slaan at bay until you can send reinforcements in that
direction. You can, however, send him northeast to capture a nearby
royalist settlement, and discover the khaldunite field located to the east
of that settlement. The Khaldunite field is also critical to the early
game, so send your engineers to build an outpost and mine it as soon as
they're done with the iron deposit.

This isn't much of a mission, it's main purpose is to simply move the plot
forward. No matter what you do, when you engage the forces guarding the
port, a minor cataclysm will occur. Your Captains will tell you to
retreat, and the mission will end in "victory".
- The map itself pretty much confines you as to how you should go. Just
keep moving south, destroying the fortresses and capturing the towns and
mines as you go. You have plenty of gold, so the resource deficit should
not be a problem.

Tips on Completing the Mission: |
-
As you can tell from most of my other walkthroughs, I don't usually give
step-by-step instructions on what to do. However, this mission can be very
difficult unless you get off to a good start, so here's my recommended
starting method.
- When you start this mission, head north. Find the Khaldunite field. Mine
it, and build an outpost.
- Head East until you find the Royalist settlement under Ceyah control.
Capture it. Build a Carpentry guild, blacksmith, mining post.
- Head North. Defeat the Slaan in the temple ruins. Find the portal. Build
Two outposts on the nearby grass tileset to guard it.
- If you follow the steps listed above, the mission should be easier. Most
of the enemies this mission come from 3 portals located on the map, and
because things are so spread out it can be a pain trying to protect all
your settlements. Building the two outposts will effectively eliminate
that portal from the equation, which will allow you to head south. - The
other two portals are located on the Southern Tip and Western Tip of the
map, and you may not run into them by the time the mission ends. The
western portal will need outpost guards, but the southern portal can be
destroyed by razing the nearby khaldunite spire. Just be sure that when
you raze it, no units are nearby, because they will be injured.
- Many of the neutral villages will join you once you fully repair them,
so there is no need to waste your time attacking them.
- The Ceyah presence on this map is not very strong. Although you'll run
into a company of Void Beasts lead by Vargus, they are surprisingly easy
to take out (I managed to do it with Darius' engineering company and a
company of footmen led by Cyrus).
