Dead
Dragons Die
Kohan Map Making Tutorial |
|
INTRODUCTION |
This tutorial was requested by a few people. It
starts on the premise that you have read any previous tutorials written
by me. I won't go into such detail with each button in this tutorial so
if you are unsure about the button functions please refer to any
previous tutorials.

TRIGGERS |
Start off by placing the Dragon Lair on the map. It is listed under the
buildings menu. Make sure you set the building to the correct player. In
this case I am using Independent because I don't want the Dragon Lair to
belong to anyone. See
example 1.

Next, we want to add a trigger to our map that we can use for our Dragon
Lair. To do this select the trigger menu then press the Add under it.
You'll see a new trigger appear in the trigger list as in
example 2.
Example
2
It's always good practice to name each
trigger as you create it so that you won't get confused when working
with multiple triggers. I will name mine Dragon Dead. Then I add one new
condition and one new effect using the buttons under the command window
in the trigger box. See
example 3.
Example
3
Next we are setting the Condition. Kohan treats a dragon lair as a
village for the dragon. The dragon is actually the dragon lair militia.
When the dragon dies it is treated as though the militia died. We have a
condition for this. So, we set the condition for the trigger as Militia
Destroyed. You must select the Dragon Lair and then press the set object
button to set the trigger to work on the dragon lair. See
example 4.
Example
4
Now we set the effect. Our ultimate purpose is to force the dragon lair
to die when the dragon does. So, we want to choose destroy object from
the effect list. See example
5. Make sure you press the set object button with the Dragon Lair
selected since it is our target object. See
example 6.

Now, let's review our trigger. Our condition commands that the trigger
will only fire when the selected objects militia is destroyed. When it
fires it will destroy the selected object. This is our intended trigger
action so it appears to be correct.
Now, one last thing to do before we can save the trigger. On the trigger
directives we want to make sure that the trigger event is Global. This
will make it work for any player that should destroy the lair. The
trigger is not an objective. We want it to be anded. Since the target
object will be gone after the trigger fires it is useless to set it as
multiple or repeats. When done save. See
example 7.

Now, your trigger is ready to test. I
would suggest placing several strong companies on the map. Go to the
test option and attack the lair. When the dragon dies the lair should
disappear. If it doesn't go back and review this tutorial.
