Corran109 sent in an updated version (v2) of Pathways Unite.

Find out what happens next to Aktrez in Part IV of Khaldun.  Will her dreams of starting a clan come true?  Will the Knightswhosayni ever get a shrubbery?  All in good time grasshopper...

It is official, you can now purchase Linux Kohan directly from Loki Entertainment.  Now all I need is Linux...any suggestions? :)

For all you aspiring map makers, there are some really good tips, and some very helpful people hanging out in the Editing Forums...the best place for figuring things out, getting ideas, and helping others.
August 28, 2001

Thanks to John Messinger, version 1.1.0 of the Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) Kohan Reference Screens are available for all factions and in a convenient all-in-one pack.

Only a few days left...get those screenshot contest entries in...

Added a News Archives section to the site.  Aren't you thrilled?

Jonah Falcon has updated the Desert Heart map to version 4.  You will need the 1.1.0 patch to play this map (as you will for all the new maps).

Also, Jonah would like to assure us that he is working on a NON-desert related map called "All Paths Lead To..." :)

We'll see if a little desert doesn't just sneak its way in...we'll see... ;)

August 26, 2001

TheSimbul has put together an excellent tutorial to get you started making your own AI.  Check it out here and feel free to discuss your editing questions in the forums.  The tutorial references fenwe's tough AI, Gore.  More AI's can be found in the AI downloads.

The Plot Thickens as Aktrez gives us Part III of Khaldun.

Corran109 adds Pathways Unite to the growing collection of great user-made maps.  Lots of resources, lots of lairs, lot's o' action.

Lazerblade has three new maps available on his site, Dark Swamp, Ceyah Threat, and Pass Defense.  Check 'em out, good stuff.

Jonah Falcon, author of the Desert Heart Map and GamePen writer, has released a new map called Across the Desert.

"The map is a 4 vs. 4 map, featuring quite a few triggers, and some tricky tactical decisions. The desert strip in the center of the map has three grassy passages, but they are guarded by young dragons." - Jonah Falcon

I am working on a download mirror for those of you having trouble downloading from FilePlanet...look for it in a couple of days.

Loki Games has announced that the Linux version of Kohan will begin shipping tomorrow, Friday, August 24:

"This delay has nothing to do with our recent reorganization.  Rather, to improve our business we have selected a new replication house.  This supplier will be working over the weekend to ensure we meet our new release date.

We thank everyone for their continued interest and the outpouring of community support.  Your well wishes and orders have been extremely motivating to our team during this difficult period."

Added a new section: Terrain

August 22, 2001

Aktrez has begun her own epic tale set in the world of Khaldun.  Read and enjoy Part I and Part II.  Find these and more great stories in the Fan Fiction section.

Added Kalisari's take on the Council and Nationalist factions to the Strategy section.  Good reads--as if I would post anything less ;)

August 21, 2001

TheSimbul and KingSlayer have put together a rather interesting map idea:

"The map is a flat area with absolutely nothing. Each player starts with the same 21 units with only the ability to make 8 outposts. It is a purely tactical map with no terrain modifiers. There is no way to get more units, so the units started with need to be used to the best of the players ability. Its basically the best general is left standing." - TheSimbul

Tactics

Updated the Cheats and Tips page, thanks to Dave Craig for pointing these out.

The Screenshot Contest is still going, so send in those shots!  The new shot above is an entry into the "Colorful" category.  Don't forget to read the Contest Rules before submitting.
August 20, 2001

Thanks to WyldRage for finding this info about the Linux version on LinuxGames:

"Sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news. The release of Kohan is delayed until next week."-lokigames

TheSimbul has submitted Part III of The Hero / Antihero Story

The Hero / Antihero Story: Part III

Added a new section to the site: Cheats and Tips.  Wondering how to make the fog of war disappear?  Or maybe how people get those , , things in their names?  Mysteries revealed!  Okay, maybe not so mysterious...but I am sure there is at least ONE person who doesn't know this. :)

August 18, 2001

Loki Games, maker of Linux games and ports, has just filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy.  What that means for Kohan, I don't know--it should have started shipping on the 15th.

Linux Games has posted a retrospective on Loki here.  It is a good and interesting read.

TimeGate Studios opened up the flood gates for beta testing the Ahriman's Gift Expansion.  The first 100 qualifying applicants will become immortal...I mean accepted.  Fill out the application here.  For some previews of the expansion, take a look at the Ahriman's Gift page.

Prepare for an influx of new players as the Korean version of Kohan is now available.  Check out the Korean Kohan site and Gamania--anyone interested in translating?  There looks like there is a link to an English page...but the drop down menu doesn't seem to do anything.

As I posted in the forum the other day, a bad thing (tm) happened and I have been effectively rebuilding the site.  It's going to take me a couple of days to get everything back in order.  If you find a missing link or anything else that seems...screwy, please let me know.

I have tested the site in various browsers: Opera, Netscape 6, Netscape 4.78, NeoPlanet, & Internet Explorer 5.5.  Only the older Netscape has the black text problem.  Also, only Netscape screws up the logo background at the top of the page.

Three new maps today:
  • TheSimbul has submitted Part II of The Hero / Antihero Story

The Hero / Antihero Story: Part II

  • Corran109 gives us a 4 Kingdom, 128x128 map,

The Drake's Waters

  • And Phavahg's sends a tribute to J.R.R. Tolkien and to Thorz's Dark War map:

War of the Rings

August 14, 2001

The Linux demo for Kohan is now available at FilePlanet.  If you use Linux, and would like to do a review (or if you have any Linux related tips for the game), please let me know.

For those of you with Netscape 4.xx, I am working on a version of the site that you can actually read.  The latest Netscape does work okay (at least you can read the writing), but still needs some tweaking.  For those of you who use IE, Netscape 4.xx sees the white text as black...so...that makes things a little difficult. :)

TheSimbul has created a great new map--the first map for a single player campaign.  Since it is for single player, I wont spoil it by giving a map screenshot.  You'll have to discover that for yourself :)

The Hero / Antihero Story: Part I

August 12, 2001

Updated the site to reflect the changes from the 1.1.0 patch.  As usual, if you see something I missed...please let me know.

Feeling nostalgic?  Check out this preview from October, 1999, that TheSimbul located on Game Forces

Strategy First has some new screenshots up for the upcoming TBS game Disciples II.  I never did finish Disciples: Sacred Lands, but it was fun.  Some really nice artwork too.
August 11, 2001

The Linux demo for Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns is now available.  You can snag it directly from Loki games, here.

In non-Kohan related news, Nival Interactive is accepting beta-test applications for their upcoming turn-based fantasy strategy game, Etherlords.  Nival is also the creator of the RPG, Evil Islands

Added a new clan link: Cooks of War.  You've got to love a clan that fights for green peppers :)

NOTE: Well, for some reason, when trying to download any of the files on this site, FilePlanet pops up a File Not Found error.  These links worked before (note the number of downloads).  I have sent off an email to the "powers that be" to check this out.  I suspect this is a result of the new downloading/mirror scheme they are working on.  Once I find out something, I will post it here. <sigh>

NOTE UPDATE 10AM EDT: Looks like FilePlanet is working again.  Let me know if you still have problems--I was able to download, but, hey, you never know :)

August 9, 2001

Computer Games Online has a preview of Ahriman's Gift, the upcoming Kohan Expansion:

Solo players will have three new campaigns to challenge them: two six-mission mini-campaigns and the twelve-mission main campaign. While the campaign engine will still be scripted (as opposed to dynamic), players will now have some latitude as to what the next mission will be. TimeGate will offer additional campaigns in the future on its www.kohan.net website, but the expansion will be part of a "gold edition," and will not require the original game to play.

"Gold edition", eh?

I've added this link as well as the past couple of preview links to the Ahriman's Gift page.  If anyone made it to Gen Con and would like to write up a little "report" on the expansion, please let me know.

Don Contant has sent in updated versions of his Kohan Unit sheets for Excel, as well as a new one in Word format.

I have updated the Reference Screens to reflect the changes in v1.1.0 (and changed the numbering scheme to match).  For those of you still using 1.0.9, I still have those available to download.  These are all in Word format.
August 8, 2001

TheSimbul is at it again!  Check out this little gem of a map:

I See You is a 256x256, 2 team map, that is best used in multiplayer--the AI has a hard time adapting to the starting configuration of towns.  Guess it is just too frustrating seeing your enemy across the river. :)

Part X of Shar Lon by Kjellon has been added to the Fan Fiction section.  Just keeps getting better and better.

TimeGate's Screenshot contest is over: Congrats to Vassilios K. KontodimasDon't forget, ours is still running 'til the end of this month.  So submit your screenshots and win a cool T-Shirt.  You will be the envy of your local Electronics Boutique.
August 6, 2001

Gamespot has a short blurb on Ahriman's Gift, as shown at Gen Con.

"Ahriman's Gift will be an official expansion to the original game and will feature three new playable campaigns and 30 stand-alone scenarios, as well as 30 new spells, 30 new unit types, and 25 new hero units."

Read more and check out some screenshots here.

Part IX of Shar Lon by Kjellon has been added to the Fan Fiction section.

Loki Games has announced that the Linux port of Kohan will begin shipping on August 15.
August 3, 2001

Don Contant has submitted some really nice Excel documents showing the units (as of 1.1.0) in a nice, easy to read, table format.  If you have Excel, these are worthy additions to that big binder of Kohan stuff I know you have hidden under your bed so your spouse wont find out how obsessed you are with this game.  Don't worry, I wont tell.

Part VIII of Shar Lon by Kjellon has been posted.  I am running out of different things to say every time she posts a new chapter. :)   Go, read, enjoy.

August 2, 2001

All sorts of good stuff today--how cool is this?

Part VII of Shar Lon by Kjellon is up for your reading pleasure.  If you haven't read any of Kjellon's work, what are you waiting for??

Tim Seddon has released his Build Order Manager v1.02.

BOM faithfully recreates the economic system of Kohan (with a few exceptions) so that different building strategies can be created, without having to constantly "restart." You can then see how different branches of build orders would effect your economy/military.

It also allows you to plan effective build orders for Kohan, even when you don't have access to it (i.e. Work, School) ;)

This is an awesome piece of work--you WILL love it.  Takes a little getting used to (like anything), but once you do you are going to be spending a LOT of time making up build orders...just for the fun of it.  Thanks, Tim :)

Note: Requires Microsoft Excel

Hot on the heels of his Ahriman's Revenge map, TheSimbul has a new map that is sure to keep you busy for hours (This is a good thing).

Eye of the Hurricane is a spiral shaped map, filled with tight corridors, wandering monsters, and a nasty death trap sure to give even the greatest Kohan pause.
